We have started featuring our trainers, instructors, and staff at Riverside Fitness. Today we'd like to introduce you to Susan Rubino.
Why did you become a personal trainer? What do you love most about the job?
I became a trainer to educate and motivate others toward their fitness goals. The most rewarding thing about being a trainer is observing the client transform into a better version of themselves. This better version could be displaying more confidence, feeling healthier, looking leaner or more muscular, or becoming a top athlete. It’s inspiring to see a client achieve goals they thought were never in reach!
Do you have a specialty or some other aspect of your education that you’re exceptional at?
I have many specialized certifications but the sports performance coach is one of my favorites! Training kids and young adult athletes in their respective field is exciting.
What is the biggest misconception about personal training, in your opinion?
The biggest perception about personal training is that fitness results should happen quickly. I try to remind every new client that that it takes 66 days to create a habit . It takes time for one’s body to adapt to change.
What is the one statement you wish everyone would know about fitness?
Fitness needs to be a lifestyle!
Time for some free advice. What is your top tip for any of the following: losing weight, staying in shape, improving ability, building muscle, etc.?
As a professional I encourage everyone to keep active and start when you are young. Fitness is one of the best weapons to staying young, feeling healthy, improving cognitive thinking, reducing risk for some diseases, building bone and muscle strength and density, better sleep, and much more. Fitness paired up with proper nutrition will manifest the best results.
Some additional advice is to start children early with a trainer so they can learn proper lifting techniques and avoid injury.
