We have started featuring our trainers, instructors, and staff at Riverside Fitness. Today we'd like to introduce you to Kerry Westhelle, one of our group fitness instructors. Let's learn more about Kerry!
What classes do you teach?
Les Mills BodyCombat.
What do you love about group fitness?
I love how we’re all in this together. We motivate each other to finish strong! Bonus--it’s a fantastic stress reliever! (5th grade teacher here.)
What is your #1 piece of advice for anyone new to your class(es)?
If you’re new, you have to give it a couple classes to decide if it’s for you. It takes at least 5 classes to feel a little more comfortable with the moves.
What is your #1 piece of advice for your regulars?
For my regulars, I always say some days are better than others. Listen to your body and take low impact options if that’s what you feel is best to do that day for you.
If you know me, you know I love to throw some downward punches!
What is your technique pet peeve?
My biggest technique pet peeve is not lifting the heel when executing a cross from the back arm. The rotation is so important and works the core, which we all want.
What's your favorite workout song that always gets you amped up?
"Get Ready" by 2 Unlimited--and it’s a Combat warmup!
